Join the Conversation– Host a World Café
 

Keep the Climate Action and Architecture conversation going and help inform the development of the RAIC Climate Action Plan. Following a successful online Congress event on October 4, 2021, we are taking the conversations to the greater public, on a mission to capture diverse perspectives.

We are committed to hearing as many voices as possible including the voices of First Nations, Inuit, and MĂ©tis peoples and equity-deserving populations.

Host a World Café conversation at your workplace or with your colleagues.

Our facilitator guide and workbook has been developed to ensure you have a voice in the development of the RAIC Climate Action Plan. The workbook can be completed by anyone who is interested in providing input, whether you are an architect (retired and licensed), intern, student, allied professional, client, or member of the public. Facilitator Guide and Workbooks are available in English and French.

Workbooks must be submitted before February 28, 2022. All workbooks submitted before January 31,2022 are eligible to win a prize pack*.

*One prize pack consisting of up to six (6) RAIC continuing education vouchers for World CafĂ© participants will be awarded following a draw from registered World CafĂ© conversations. Maximum value of prize pack is $500.

Call for Volunteer – RAIC Awards Professional Advisor
 

The RAIC is seeking a volunteer professional advisor to participate in the process of administering many of the RAIC’s Awards. The volunteer professional advisor is a licensed or formerly licensed architect, or a current or retired member of faculty in a college/university architecture program who acts as a fairness monitor and represents the interests of the submitters/candidates in a neutral manner throughout the jurying process.

The Professional Advisor is supported by RAIC staff who take the primary responsibility for organizing, convening, and managing award submissions and jury meetings; and by the RAIC Awards Advisory Committee, which takes the primary responsibility for identifying jurors and advising on the structure of the awards. The Professional Advisor is an ex-officio, non-voting member of the RAIC Awards Advisory Committee.

Eligibility:  RAIC members in good standing who are licensed or formerly licensed architect, or a current or retired member of faculty in a college/university architecture program.

Call for a RAIC representative volunteer interested in universal design
 

The Universal Design Network of Canada (UDNC) is interested in filling a vacant position on our board of directors in the capacity of Architect. Our board consists of four “pillars” of knowledge representing designers, people with lived experience, the field of ergonomics, and health / wellness. As a member of the board, you would be responsible for meeting, at minimum, twice a year using remote technology such as Zoom. The board member might also act as a “Liaison” between the UDNC and RAIC. 

The Universal Design Network of Canada is the only federally registered not for profit corporation dedicated to promoting universal design–and we accomplish this result through research, education, and displays of best practice.

RAIC FOUNDATION

The RAIC Foundation is pleased to announce the call for submissions for the RAIC Foundation Bursary.  The Foundation invites individuals and/or teams who have affiliations/membership with any Canadian architectural organization to participate for 2022.

The RAIC Foundation Bursary was established to support a project consistent with the RAIC Foundation’s mission to promote architecture in its broadest sense. The winning submission will be for a project that encourages public education or enables significant scholarly research that results in publications, exhibitions, symposia, lectures, or conferences.

This $2,500 bursary is funded from the RAIC Foundation General Fund.

The submission deadline is March 18, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Applying is quick and easy with the RAIC’s online submission platform.

Mindful Modernism(s) || November 6, 2021-February 5, 2022

The Mindful Modernism(s) project proposal is part of a larger, multi-phase, multi-year initiative between the Canadian Centre for Mindful Habitats (CCMH), the Department of Interior Design, Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba, and the Bachelor of Interior Design program at Algonquin College to explore mindfulness in the teaching, practice, and pedagogy of the built environment. It is supported by Ontario Association of Architects, Interior Designers of Canada, ˛©˛Ę.

Mindful Modernism(s) is a webinar series with eight different sessions bringing together an international contingent of academics, scholars, and practitioners from North America, Asia, Australia, and Europe in a spirited debate about how to expand design thinking and practice to be more inclusive, tolerant, and respectful of marginalized perspectives, knowledge bases, and communities to generate and mobilize new knowledge areas and thinking strategies in the current design practice and pedagogy of the built environment.
